What is a Veterinary Technician?

 
Veterinary Technicians are specifically trained professionals who work as an integral partof the veterinary medical team, to provide humane quality animal health care. Their education provides them with the theory and practical skills essential to their careerchoice.
 
  • assist in surgical procedures 
  • emergency, intensive and basic nursing care
  • perform diagnostic laboratory procedures - such as hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, bacteriology
  • administer medications and treatment as prescribed by the attending veterinarian
  • expose and develop radiographs
  • nutritional management
  • restrain and handle animals
  • maintain animal husbandry
  • public education, client relations

What is a RVT?

 
Registered Veterinary Technician "RVT" is a designated title in Ontario and may be used by only those technicians:
 
  • who have met all Registration requirements,
  • who are and continue to be members in good standing and who maintain the mandatory Continuing Education Component  who are and continue to be members in good standing and who maintain the mandatory Continuing Education Component
